I am a midwest-based artist currently residing in Madison, WI. My work explores the tradition of craft, textile and home decoration. I engage in a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, glasswork, tattoos, and textiles.
As an adult, I have had to relearn how to cope with impermanence in my life. I’m at an age when everything is constantly shifting, beginning, and ending. I make sense of all of this constant change through my work where I explore both growth and decay. I pull a lot of inspiration from nature, where cycles are a part of the everyday. Using visuals from my environment, I have created a series of symbols and motifs that show up repeatedly in my work.

Inspired by folk art, I use mediums that are readily available to me, which often is a mixture of secondhand materials. The innate desire humans have to create and decorate their environments, as seen in grottos and shrines, influences me to create work used to reimagine  my surroundings. I see this as a way to gain control of my environment, where I would normally be subject to cyclical patterns out of my control. I see my work as a way to transcend through reality into a manifestation of eccentric and whimsical surroundings.

My work is in response to growing up in a capitalist environment of gray walls and efficiency, and in turn seeks to move viewers to consider reimagining how our environment in the US could look if we connected more with growth instead of decay.
